Marubeni
Corporation (“Marubeni”), in a consortium with Siemens Aktiengesellschaft,
Germany and Siemens Limited, Thailand (“Siemens Group”), has been awarded the
South Bangkok (combined-cycle thermal) Power Plant Replacement Project Phase 1
from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.
This power plant will have the capacity to produce around 1,200MW of
electricity, having an EPC contract value of approximately 60 billion Japanese
Yen.
The construction site of this project is located along the Chao Phraya River in
the Mueang District of Samut Prakan Province, a southern suburb of Bangkok.
This new power plant will replace an existing thermal power plant and as it is
highly efficient it will reduce the burden on the environment.
This is a full turn-key project and the scope of the Marubeni and Siemens
consortium for this project includes engineering, procurement, construction and
commissioning. Such main equipment such as gas turbines, steam turbines,
generators and heat recovery steam generators will be supplied by the Siemens
Group, while Marubeni is in charge of supplying the balance of plant equipment,
civil engineering /construction and
installation work.
Within the last 10 years in Thailand, the Marubeni and Siemens consortium has
jointly succeeded in a total of 4 combined cycle power plant projects, and the
extensive experience and reliable performance of the technology in these past
projects contributed to winning the award for this project.
Marubeni's total awarded capacity in Thailand, accumulated over the last 50
years, has now reaching 11GW including this project. This represents around 30
percent of the country's total installed power capacity.
In Thailand, several new large-scale projects, including combined cycle
projects, are in the planning and development stage. Marubeni, with its strong
presence in the market, will continue to actively pursue further opportunities
to contribute to a stable power supply in Thailand.
